Hyderabad: Human clinical trails for covid19 vaccine begins at Hyderabad'NIMS' for phase 1 an indian applicant name Covaxin has started at Nizam's institute of medical sciences (NIMS) as on Monday healthy volunteers were given first dose of the vaccine.
A couple of week's ago the institute director Dr K Manohar said that the trial samples will be administered after receiving approval from (ICMR) Indian council of Medical Research. As NIMS is among 12 institutions which is involved in covid19 trials as listed by ICMR. Dr prabhakar Reddy is the principal investigator of this clinical trials with other branch members of various departments.
As for now two healthy volunteers were administered with first dose of the vaccine and health condition of the volunteers will be checked for the next 6 months the main reason for monitoring is to check if the antibodies get generated in the body, and the amount of time taken by antibodies to kick in and the lasting period of antibodies and with its if everything goes smoothly the second dose of the vaccine will be given to them after a gap of 14 days.
On July 02 ICMR's director general Dr Balram Bhargava sent a letter to heads of the 12 testing institutions that their institute was choose for clinical trial site for vaccine.
The vaccine which is defined from SARS-COV-2 isolated by National institute of verology ( the branch of science that deals with viruses) Pune. The vaccine applicant is developed by Hyderabad based Bharat biotech india Ltd. They recieved drug controller general letter on July 29 for phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials.
