Kinetic Luna sets to return as Electric Bike.

Kinetic moped luna is sets to launch its electric bike with 80Kms of speed, price 50,000.
Kinetic Luna is a 50 cc moped that was introduced by Kinetic Engineering in India in 1972. The Kinetic Luna continues to be produced and marketed in India. It is marketed in the USA as Kinetic TFR.

Key features:
The revamped Kinetic Luna will be run electrically and will be powered by a 1 kilowatt motor. The battery on the moped will be a Li-ion battery considering the shift from lead acid units that are used by all leading electric vehicle manufacturers.

As per reports, the Kinetic Luna electric will run about 70-80 km with a top speed of 25 kmph. Due to this, the customers will not be required to register the bike as it comes under the slow-speed category.

As we all know, the original Luna came with no gears, a 50 cc engine, and pedals to help the bike move if required.

Sulajja Firodia Motwani, the CEO, and founder of Kinetic Green revealed that there arent any immediate plans of getting into the electric two wheeler space and the company is concentrating on building the EVs ground up such as electric rickshaws.

As per reports by Financial Express, Kinetic has sold off the shares in their Kinetic Motor Cycles Limited, which means that the company is free to launch their own two wheelers now.

In the early 1970s, India was divided between people who stuck to their traditional bicycles and the thrill seekers who were fast adapting to motorcycles. For most of the middle-class population, cycles worked better because they were cheap, durable and required minimal maintenance. On the other hand, motorcycles were attracting a lot of attention for the speed and comfort that they offered, but with a price tag.

Luna Ads

The advertising around Luna was kept very basic and the characters were put in day to day situations to give it a very realistic feel so that the users could relate to it. The moped was aimed only at the middle class and not the elite class. Characters like Ram Murari, a government employee, Ravi Kumar, a trader, and Radha, a medical student, who were part of the campaign, were people viewers could relate to. They had issues of time management, wanted to strike a work-life balance and at the same time desired to excel in life, academics, and business.

End of Era

“Competition intensified in Kinetic Motor’s main segment of gearless scooters with the entry of large players like Honda, Suzuki and Hero Honda. The Kinetic Group decided that it would be difficult for its two-wheeler business to be profitable as a standalone scooter manufacturer,” Sulajja Firodia Motwani, the managing director of Kinetic Motor Company mentioned.
